Maxine Thomas Hazen

Mrs. Maxine Thomas Hazen, 84, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Hazen was born May 6, 1924, in Surry County, to the late Alfred Samuel and Ruth Varina Edwards Thomas. Mrs. Hazen worked for the Signal Corp in Washington, DC, during WWII. While residing in New Jersey, she was a homemaker and also worked for Halckey-Roberts for many years until retiring to Pilot Mountain. She was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Edward and Debra Hazen of North Attleboro, MA, Thomas and Carol Hazen of Valparaiso, IN, and Herbert and Cynthia Hazen of Wyckoff, NJ; twelve grandchildren and spouses, Michael and Amy Hazen of Shrewsbury, MA, Tara and Richard Tetreault of North Attleboro, MA, Bethany and Joe Drew of Valparaiso, IN, Jessie and David Elenbaas of Seattle WA, Kristin Hazen of Valparaiso, IN, Jon and Christy Hazen of Lacey, WA, Robert Hazen of Greenpond, NJ, Heather Hazen of Franklin Lakes, NJ, David Hazen of Wyckoff, Erin Hazen, Lauren Hazen and Megan Hazen, all of Wyckoff, NJ; three great-grandchildren, Evan Paul Tetreault of North Attleboro, MA, Jacob Drew of Valparaiso, IN, and Ethan Hazen of Valparaiso, IN; and two brothers, Wayne Thomas of Pilot Mountain and James Thomas of AZ. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hazen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Albert "Ted" Hazen; a sister, Anna Ruth Thomas; brothers, Bennil D. Thomas, Burton Samuel Thomas, Ronald Melvin Thomas, and Alvin Jan "A.J." Thomas. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, December 29, 2008, at Simmons Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan Branch. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Simmons Grove Baptist Church on Monday, December 29, 2008, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
