Mrs. May Henry Hunt Worrell, age 100, passed away on December 23, 2018 following a short period of declining health. May Henry was a resident of Winston Salem, NC having moved from Mount Airy, NC to Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community in 2010. May Henry was born in Gaston County, North Carolina on August 24, 1918 to the late Henry Marcus Hunt and Ida Mae Wallace Hunt. She was married on May 4, 1946 to the late Curtis Edwin (Ed) Worrell and together they lived in Mount Airy for over 50 years. May Henry Hunt Worrell graduated from Lees-McRae College, Banner Elk, NC in 1938. She has always given credit to Lees-McRae College for giving her the opportunity to further her education, which allowed her to lead a full and happy life in the town of Mount Airy, NC as Director of Medical Records for Martin Memorial Hospital from 1939 to 1953. She continued working at Northern Hospital of Surry County from 1957 to 1981 as Director of Medical Records, and was a member of the Northern Hospital of Surry County Quality Assurance Program from 1981-1986. In addition to her husband and parents, May Henry was preceded in death by three brothers, Winfried Wallace Hunt, William Lamar Hunt, and Glenn Davis Hunt. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Summer Hunt, who is also a resident of Arbor Acres. She is also survived by her nieces, Jane Hunt, Marsha Efland (Douglas), Susan Miller, and nephews, Robert Hunt (Merja), and Marc Hunt, all of whom loved May Henry dearly. She is also survived by three great-nieces, four great-nephews, a great-great niece and two great-great nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church, Central United Methodist Church, 1909 N. Main St, Mount Airy NC 27030, Arbor Acres Employees Christmas Fund, or a charity of your choice. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at12:30 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, 300 S. Main Street, Mount Airy, NC. with visitation at Central United Methodist Church starting at 11:00 AM. A special thank you is extended to the employees of Arbor Acres United Methodist Retirement Community, Winston Salem, NC who took extra ordinary care of May Henry in her 8 years of residency there.
