Melba Hutchens Wright

Mrs. Melba Hutchens Wright, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2015, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. Wright was born July 11, 1926, to the late Porter and Flora Bryant Johnson. She was a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking for her loving family. She also spent 4½ years at Priddy Manor in King, where she was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Wright is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Brent Tilley of Ararat; a son, Bernard Mitchell “Mickey” Wright of Mount Airy; her grandchildren, Chris Wright, Missie Lowry, Mitchell Wright, Beth Tilley, and Brad Tilley; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Betty Burnett of St. Petersburg, FL. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Mitchell Wright, Sr.; a son, Gary Wright; two sisters, Alene Smith and Ruth Pectol; and four brothers, Leon Johnson,Arnold Johnson, Dale Johnson, Gale Johnson, and Wayne Johnson. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Home Chapel in Dobson. Burial will follow in the Piney Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
