Mrs. Melia Annie Creed Holyfield, 76, of 132 Holyfield Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Holyfield was born January 2, 1931, in Surry County, to the late F.J. "Levi" and Ernestine Hanks Creed. She was a homemaker and a member of Little Mountain Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Benjamin Franklin Holyfield of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Terry Simmons, Faye and Clay Draughn, and Cathy and Joe Lankford, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Harry and Nancy Holyfield of Mount Airy; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Sue and Blaine Brintle of Mount Airy, Jane Danley of Ararat, and Jean and Billy Hicks of Pilot Mountain; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Roscoe and Mabel Creed and Wallace and Magdalene Creed, all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holyfield was preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Sue Holyfield; and a sister, Minnie Creed Atkins. The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 16, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Little Mountain Baptist Church. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Watson and the Rev. Rayton Puckett. Burial will follow in the Little Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the funeral service.
