Melissa Lynn Darnell Hayes

Mrs. Melissa Lynn Darnell Hayes, 60, of Ararat, VA, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery in Blacksburg, VA.  Mrs. Hayes was born January 14, 1963, in Forsyth County, to the late Elbert Darnell and Doris Long Darnell Young.  She was a loving homemaker, who will be dearly missed, and was a member of Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church.  She is survived by her husband, Roger Hayes; two stepsons, Tracy Hayes and Terry Hayes; and a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Rhonda Young.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her second husband, Gene Hawks; and her stepfather, Fred Young.  The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Jimmy Joyce and the Rev. David Tolbert officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Northern Regional Hospital and Twin County Regional Hospital.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
