Melvin Burllie Hawks

Mr. Melvin Burlie Hawks, age 73 of Mount Airy, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hawks was born on October 16, 1950, in Carroll County, Virginia to the late Burlie Edward and Annie Marie Hawks Hawks. Melvin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a faithful member of True Vine Baptist Church, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving is his wife, Joyce Ann Marion Hawks; daughter and son-in-law, Verona Long and husband Mitchell; sons and daughters-in-law, Bro. Ray Hawks and wife Amanda, Samuel Hawks and wife Jennifer; step daughters and step sons-in-law, Selina Bowman and husband Jason, Tracy Tate and husband David; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Lona Faye Freeman, Mona Lyons, Fernita Hutchens; sister-in-law, Doris Hawks; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronnie Dale Hawks and wife Ruby, Leon Hawks and wife Helen; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his first wife, Sandra Kaye Samuels Hawks; son-in-law, Dwayne Nixon; sisters, Debbie Johnson, Sherri Hawks; and brother, Calvin Hawks. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM at True Vine Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Reverend Rawley “Dink” Haynes and Brother Ray Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, October 16, 2024, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The body will lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to True Vine Baptist Church, P.O.
