Melvin Douglas "Doug" Simmons

Mr. Melvin Douglas “Doug” Simmons, 80, of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, July 03, 2019 at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation in Mt. Airy.  He was born in Surry County on March 7, 1939 to the late Houston Lecco and Ruth Belton Simmons.  Mr. Simmons was a loving father and grandfather who will be dearly missed by all his family and many friends.  He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Robin Simmons and Drew Estaver; grandchildren, Casey Simmons, and Dustin Scott Kirby and wife Treva.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by a son, Mark Timothy Simmons; a brother, Eddy Simmons.  A graveside service will be held Friday, July 5, 2019 at 12:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with his daughter officiating.  The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 until 11:30 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
