Mr. Melvin Alva Webb, 90, of Mount Airy, went to be with his heavenly father on Monday, June 14, 2010, from the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Webb was born August 24, 1919, in Carroll County, VA, son of the late Jessee "Jett" and Emma Adline Largen Webb. Melvin served our country in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of two purple hearts for his bravery. He was a carpenter, enjoyed farming, and a member of Dover Baptist Church. Surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jezebel "Belle" and Oscar H. Beck of Woodlawn, VA, and Nelva Ella Ralph of Newport, WA; a very special friend, Deborah Creed of Mount Airy; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Mr. Webb was preceded in death by his loving wife, Edith Bolt Gant Webb; two sisters, Velma Rachel Webb and Lessie Odessie Webb; and three brothers, Duke Morton Webb, Elvin Elton Webb, and Clive Bert Webb. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Dover Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Cecil Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the church.
