Michael Alan Hoyng
Mike went home to the Lord Jesus Christ on April 19th, 2025, having dedicated his life in service to God and to his family, friends and to anyone, really, needing a helping hand. Mike’s enduring mark on this world was made on the people he served. From his many years at Surry Friends of Youth, his unnumberable hours at Yokefellow Food Pantry, his faithful service at Reynolda Church, King Campus, and his servant’s heart in supporting many local, national and international charities, Mike Hoyng lived his life in loving service.
Mike was born on February 23, 1948, in Piqua, Ohio to Laverne Henry (Frank) and Adelaide Felts Hoyng. Mike graduated from NC State University in 1970 with a degree in Economics. He was married to Katy Bray Hoyng on April 7th, 1979, who brought with her two stepsons, Reverend Charles Wallace (Chuck) Estes and James Daniel (Dan) Estes. Mike worked for 34 years in the Surry County office of probation and parole, after faithful service in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, Laverne and Adelaide Hoyng, and his wife of 46 years, Katy Bray Hoyng.
Survivors include stepsons Chuck, wife Julie, and Dan, wife Jill, grandchildren Danielle Todd, and husband, Ryan (great grandchild Riley Todd), Brandon Estes, wife Ally, Gabriel and Rachel Estes, Haley and Hannah Harnichar-Estes and Mikeal Lowery-Estes, sisters Dianne Mears and husband, Jim, Mary Martin and husband, Tom, Sandy Mikesell and husband, David, and brother Jim Hoyng, and wife, Allyson.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, May 17th at 2 PM in the chapel of Reynolda Church. Mike’s cremains will be buried in Oakdale Cemetery, Mt. Airy, NC, at 4 PM with a short service at graveside. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Reynolda Church EPC, 2200 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, NC, 27106 or to Yokefellow Ministry, 461 North South Street, Mount Airy, NC, 27030.Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
