Mr. Michael Buford Gwyn, 51, of 424 Old Toast Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday morning, April 4, 2010, at his home. Mr. Gwyn was born February 15, 1959, in Surry County, son of Eva Jean Galyean Gwyn and the late Oscar Buford "Bill" Gwyn. Michael was a self-employed lawn maintenance operator and attended Slate Mountain Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Gwyn Gwyn of the home; two daughters, Tracy Gwyn of Mount Airy and Hope Lynn Gwyn of the home; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Mason Joshua Gwyn of the home, and Jason and Angie Gwyn, Jonathan Gwyn, and Matthew Gwyn, all of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter, Shena Lea Spurlin of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; his mother, Eva Jean Galyean Gwyn of Mount Airy; a sister, Nancy Gwyn and her special friend, Terry Danley, of Mount Airy; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Randy Lee Gwyn, Sr. and Tommy and Kathy Gwyn, all of Mount Airy; several nieces and nephews; and a special uncle, Mack Gwyn. In addition to his father, Mr. Gwyn was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Tommy and Belle Galyean; and his paternal grandparents, Robert and Mallie Gwyn. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Closer Walk Baptist Church, with the Rev. Doug Cockerham and the Rev. Darren Slate officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Hollow Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Closer Walk Baptist Church, where his body will remain until the hour of the funeral service. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is serving the family.
