Michael Franklin Hutchins

Mr. Michael Franklin “Rattlehead” Hutchins, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Surry County on November 15, 1945 to the late Claude Allen Hutchins and Dora Reece Hutchins.  Mr. Hutchins was a retired truck driver and attended New Charity Baptist Church.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Brenda Barnes Hutchins; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Wayne Marshall; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Todd Bowman, Jason Hutchins, Brian and Hannah Sain, and Benny Bowman; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren with one on the way; sisters and brothers-in-law, Elizabeth “Libby” and RV Holder, Brenda “Pete” and Ronnie Miller, and Edna and Arthur Mickle, several nieces and nephews; and special fur baby, Peppers.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hutchins was preceded in death by two sisters, Barbara Jean Largen and Annie Lou Smith; and a brother, Jerry Allen Hutchins, Sr.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at New Charity Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Hank Robertson officiating.  Burial will follow in the New Venture Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 12:00 – 2:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to New Charity Baptist Church, 232 White Pines Country Club Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.  The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and especially to Tammy Marshall, Kathy Gwyn, and Nancy Gwyn for all the love and tender care given to Mike and the family during his illness.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the Hutchins family.
