Michael James Neal

Mr. Michael James “Mike” Neal, 81, of Pinnacle, passed from this life to his eternal heavenly home on the morning of June 12, 2023, leaving behind his beloved family, friends, and the Shoals community.

Mike was born March 28, 1942, in Lawsonville, to the late Charles Edwin and Mildred Declovice Robertson Neal.  He graduated from Lawsonville High School.  In 1962, he married the love of his life, Margie Michael, and together they enjoyed 60-plus years of marriage.  After 40 years of service, Mike retired from Container Corporation of America.  During this time, Mike, along with his family, raised tobacco and large gardens – always a farmer at heart.

Mike loved the community of Shoals and contributed many volunteer hours at the Shoals Community Recreation Center and helping with the Ruritan Club’s Angel Tree project.  He loved his church family at Shoals Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for several years and assisted in various church projects and ministries.  His well-manicured yard represented many hours of mowing and trimming which he so enjoyed.  A fan of NASCAR racing, Mike spent many Sunday afternoons watching racing on TV.

Mike was predeceased by his parents; his son-in-law, Thomas Bryant; two brothers, Allan Neal and Doug Neal; a sister-in-law, Betty Neal; a nephew, Wendall Neal; and his father and mother-in-law, Everette and Ruby Michael.  Surviving, to treasure his memory, are his devoted wife, Margie Neal of the home; a daughter, Marisa Bryant of Pinnacle; a grandson, Trevor Bryant of Pinnacle; a sister-in-law, Barbara Neal; a niece, Vivian Mahathey; and three nephews, Lewis Neal, Greg Neal, and Kevin Neal.

The funeral service and family visitation will be conducted at the Shoals Methodist Church, 4245 Shoals Road, Pinnacle, on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM, with the Rev. Joey Lane officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM.  Burial will follow at the Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery, 4112 Shoals Road, Pinnacle.  Memorials may be made to the Shoals Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, in care of Ethan Boles, 1319 Hauser Road, Pinnacle, NC  27043; or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC  27030.
