Michael Ray Norman

Mr. Michael Ray Norman, 62, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, June 10, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born October 18, 1948, in Surry County, son of the late Carl and Ethel Willard Norman. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Douglas Norman of the home; three stepsons and their wives, Dale and Frankie Dixon, Doug and Tammy Dixon, and Dennis and Jessie Dixon, all of Mount Airy; a stepdaughter and her husband, Melissa and Terry Stevens of Mount Airy; five grandchildren, Jessica Dixon, Tara Jones, Adam Jones, Tennessee Wright, and Morgan Dixon, all of Mount Airy; and two great-grandchildren, Brayden Fernandini and Bryson Parker, both of Mount Airy. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Doug Woods of Cana, VA, and Debbie and Jeff Darnell of Elkin; a brother-in-law, John Martin of Mount Airy; his stepmother, Sarah Norman of Mount Airy; two stepbrothers, Russell Knott and H.R. Knott; two stepsisters, Linda Cain and Gail Horton; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by a sister, Genevieve Martin. There will be no formal services. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy will be in charge of the cremation. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
