Michael Emmett VanVleet

Mr. Michael Emmett “Bud” VanVleet, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, August 24, 2018, at the W.G. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.  Mr. VanVleet was born September 4, 1948, in Calhoun County, MI, to Beverly Niswander VanVleet and the late Emmett Donald VanVleet.  Bud retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery and was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church.  Left to cherish his memories are his wife, Kathryn Wessel VanVleet of the home; a son, Douglas Michael VanVleet of Greensboro; his mother, Beverly Niswander VanVleet of Battle Creek, MI; a sister, Vicky Lynn VanDaff of Battle Creek, MI; and a brother, Henry Charles VanVleet of Florida.  In addition to his father, Mr. VanVleet was preceded in death by a nephew, Jacob Sutherland.  The funeral service will be held Monday, August 27, 2018, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. David Tucker, the Rev. Bill Tucker, and the Rev. Tom Delph officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard.  The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
