Michael Stephen Williams, Sr

Mr. Michael Stephen Williams, Sr., 76, of Ararat, VA, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Williams was born July 26, 1940, in Surry County, to the late Alphonso “Fonce” and LaDean “Tab” Westmoreland Williams. He bravely served in the United States Navy for more than six years, working as a Hospital Corp. Technician. He was a retired plumber. Mr. Williams was a caring husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Bessie Hiatt Williams; his children, Sikinda Thompkins, Michael Stephen Williams, Jr. and his wife, Nellie, Katrinka Rinehart and her husband, Jeff, and Woodrow Williams; fifteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a sister, Sybil Llewellyn; and a brother, Timothy Williams. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams was preceded in death by two daughters, Pamela Kemp and Sandy Hiatt Draughn; three grandchildren, Thomas Inman, Brandon Draughn, and Josh Draughn; and a brother-in-law, James “Duck” Llewellyn. The funeral service will be held Sunday, January 15, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Arlis Thomas and the Rev. Dennis Barnette officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Chestnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 5391 Willis Gap Road, VA 24053.
