Mildred Louise Strickland Cole

Mrs. Mildred Louise "Dot" Strickland Cole, 75, of Plantation Drive, Cana, VA, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008, at Stokes-Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Danbury. Mrs. Cole was born May 14, 1933, in Carroll County, VA, to the late David Washington and Arvala McMillian Strickland. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 43 years of service. Dot was a member of Flat Ridge Baptist Church and the ladies' auxiliary of Grover King VFW Post 1115 in Hillsville, VA. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Elizabeth Chappell of Westfield; three stepsons, Terry Cole and C.B. Cole, both of Hillsville, VA, and Clinton Cole of West Jefferson; two stepgrandchildren, Austin Barefoot and Victoria Barefoot, both of Westfield; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and Jack Cooke of Mount Airy and Wilma and Burlie Bowman of Cana, VA. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cole was preceded in death by her husbands, Edd Chappell, Len Minter, and Lonnie Cole; four sisters, Vera Steele, Antoniette Paul, Clara Strickland, and Merle Harris; and three brothers, John Strickland, Chester Strickland, and Jess Strickland. The funeral service will be held Sunday, July 6, 2008, at 4:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe, the Rev. Oscar Hill, and Chaplain Norman Goad, and burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Lynn Bowman and Johnnie Strickland for the love, care, and compassion shown to Dot during her illness and especially for their companionship during her trips for radiation.
