Mrs. Mildred Irene Tate Edwards, age 72 of Mount Airy, passed away shortly before sunrise at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.  Mrs. Edwards was born August 5, 1946 in Surry County, the daughter of the late Jesse Harris and Maude Viola Edwards Tate.  Mildred loved life, living life to the fullest, always seeing the best in every day.  She had a love for the land and spent her years on this earth farming and raising cows.  She lived the words of the poem, “So God Made A Farmer.”  Surviving are her husband of 55 years, James Leonard Edwards, daughters, Delores and Dale Johnson and Donna and Steven Jarrell; grandchildren, Nickie and Scott Haas, and Austin Jarrell; great-grandchildren, Avery and Alexis Craddock and Bentley Snow; one sister, Carol Smith; three brothers, John, Frank and Mike Tate; and a very special friend, Etta “Ma” Smith.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margaret Tate, Mary Ruth Jenkins, and Shirley Nance; and half-brothers, Jim Tate and Lonnie Tate.  No formal services are planned.  She will be laid to rest in a private service at the family cemetery.  The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.  The family would like to give thanks to Yvette Sisk NP, Paige Clifton RN, and the staff of the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
