Mrs. Mildred Monday Richards, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday, August 23, 2010, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Richards was born October 11, 1920, in Surry County, daughter of the late Jesse and Lucinda Sumner Monday. Mildred was the past owner and operator of Oak Grove Market. She was a member of Beulah United Methodist Church and a member of the Beulah Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Richards is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Aubrey Dale Willard of the home; a son-in-law, Doug Prevette of Mocksville; three grandchildren their spouses, Derrick Whitaker of Dobson, Danny and Candice Whitaker of Nashville, TN, and Ethan and Katie Prevette of Winston-Salem; two stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Justin and Crystal Willard of Richmond, VA, and Teman and Jamie Willard of Winston-Salem; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and four sisters-in-law, Dr. Swanson and Ruth Richards and Lorraine Richards, all of Mount Airy, Viola Richards of Washington State, and Agnes Monday of Fort Royal, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Richards was preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Richards, Sr.; a daughter, Lynn Richards Prevette; a son, John Lewis Richards Jr.; a grandson, Wesley Prevette; and four brothers, Claude Monday, Morris "Turk" Monday, Charles Monday, and Dale Monday. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dorothy Sullivan and the Rev. Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron officiating. Burial will follow in the Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 24, 2010, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Beulah United Methodist Church, c/o Goldie Sparger, 5012 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
