Mildred Berrier Shelton

Mrs. Mildred Berrier Shelton, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, January 4, 2024.  Mrs. Shelton was born December 31, 1934, in Surry County, one of eight children born to the late William Franklin and Anna Rosa Blackburn Berrier.  Mildred worked in textiles for many years and attended Antioch Baptist Church until her health declined.  She was affectionately known as “Mimmie” by friends and family alike, as she was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend.  Mrs. Shelton is survived by a daughter, Donna Lynn Shelton (Jennifer King); two sisters, Rachel Hodges and Judy Jarrell; a brother, James “Harrison” Berrier; and special nieces and a nephew, Jamie Martin, Ellie Martin, Kathy Wilmoth, Lori Jarrell, and Jody Jarrell.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Thomas “Drake” Shelton; two sisters, Mary Ruth Berrier and Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Huff; two brothers, Wayne Berrier and John Berrier; and a niece, Tammy Jenkins.  A service of worship and celebration of Mildred’s life will be held Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 5:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Dale Wallace officiating.  The family will receive friends Sunday from 3:30 until 5:00 PM at the funeral home.  A private interment will be held at Skyline Memory Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 105 North Crutchfield Street, Unit 2, Dobson, NC  27017.
