Mrs. Mildred Irene Wilson Tate Montgomery, 89, of Toledo, OH, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020. Mrs. Montgomery was born June 25, 1931, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Earl Jefferson Wilson, Sr. and Linda Ellen Moore Wilson. Mildred worked in the financial departments of several organizations in Columbus, OH, and later served her church family alongside her husband, William J. Montgomery, during his time as pastor and interim pastor throughout Ohio and West Virginia. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Kathy L. Tate of Maumee, OH; a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Tate of Germantown, OH; her grandchildren, Ron and Missy Tate of Centerville, OH, Aaron and Beth Tate of Brookville, OH, David and Meghan Sherpinskas of Swanton, OH, and Christopher Sherpinskas of Rutherfordton; two great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Montgomery was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Howard Tate; her second husband, the Rev. Dr. William J. Montgomery; a son, Joseph Earl Tate; four sisters, Maggie Burkett, Mary Ruth Barker, Estelle Thomas, and Betty Faw; and four brothers, Garnett Wilson, Charley Wilson, Earl Jefferson Wilson, Jr., and Edward L. Wilson. A service of worship and celebration of Mildred’s life will be held Sunday, December 20, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Chris Langham officiating. No formal visitation will be held. Due to public health concerns, attendees are requested to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o James K. Boyd, 3373 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
