Mrs. Mildred Magdalene Oakley Brown Wilmoth, 83 of Lowgap passed away at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, Thursday, February 25, 2021, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Wilmoth was born on October 27, 1937 in Grayson County, Virginia, to the late James Earl and Annie Rutherford Oakely. Mrs. Wilmoth was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. Mildred was the second female mail worker and the first female mail carrier for the Mount Airy Postal Services. She continued working for 25 years before retiring. Mildred was well known for her gift of writing and her love of animals, as well has her support of various charities including churches, Native Americans Schools, and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa Brown Flippin and husband Doug, son and daughter-in-law, Goss Brown and wife Janice; granddaughter, Brandi Flippin; great-grandchildren, Ava Morin and Anakin Norman; special neighbors Mona Higgins and Jack Ball. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wilmoth was preceded in death by her first husband, Roscoe Dale Brown; her second husband, Harold Willie Wilmoth; and one grandson, Richard Flippin. The family will receive friends Monday, March 1, 2021 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Roaring Gap Baptist Church, in Lowgap, North Carolina. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Roaring Gap Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Rev. Larry Woodle and Rev. Kyle Jordon officiating with burial in the Roaring Gap Baptist Church Cemetery. Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is serving the family.
