Milton Carl Smith

Mr. Milton Carl Smith, 77, of 127 Kizer Street, Mount Airy, went to be with Jesus on Monday night, July 20, 2009, at Yadkin Nursing Care Center in Yadkinville. Mr. Smith was born August 12, 1931, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Carl and Flora Elizabeth Boyd Smith. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Bassett Furniture. Mr. Smith was a member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church. Surviving are his twin daughters, Debby Johnson and her husband, Jerry, of Ararat and Betty Lou Davis of Mount Airy; three grandchildren and their spouses, Jody and Mandy Davis of Pinnacle, Chris Johnson of Ararat, and the Rev. Jason and Sarah Johnson of Dobson; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Davis and McKenzie Davis, both of Pinnacle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Susan and Oscar Combs and Bettie and Turner Watts, all of Mount Airy; and eight brothers and three sisters-in-law, Clarence and Mamie Smith, James Lee and Frances Smith, and Jack Smith, all of Mount Airy, Donald and Susie Smith of Ararat, VA, and Alvin Ray Smith, Calvin Gray Smith, Hassell Gene Smith, and William Junior Smith, all of Cana, VA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie McMillian Smith; and two brothers, Jesse Kyle Smith and Raleigh Swanson Smith. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Solid Rock Baptist Church, with the Rev. Roy Quesenberry, the Rev. Jason Johnson, and the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Cemetery, with military honors by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
