Mrs. Minnie Rachel George Venable Holyfield, 76, of 504 Arlington Street, Mount Airy, passed away Monday, May 14, 2007, at her home. Mrs. Holyfield was born June 26, 1930, in McDowell County, WV, to the late Andy Lee and Christine Norman George. She retired as a seamstress from Spencer's Inc. after 30 years of service and attended White Plains Friends Meeting. Most importantly, Minnie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bennie and Wayne Burton of Pilot Mountain and Patricia and Joe Draughon of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Adriane Burton of Raleigh, Casie Burton of Atlanta, GA, and Tracy Hawks and Michael Hawks, both of Mount Airy; two great grandchildren, Stacy Hawks and Elizabeth Hawks, both of Mount Airy; three brothers, Otis George, Rudolph George, and Chester George, all of Mount Airy; a half-sister and spouse, Rita Jo and Lonnie Atkins of Mount Airy; and a half-brother, Garnett Venable of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Holyfield was preceded in death by her husbands, Ben F. Venable and Glenn "Bill" Holyfield; three brothers, Elmer George, Aldie George, and Arvil George; and a half-brother, Troy George. The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Wayne Johnson, and burial will follow in the Hutchens-Venable Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the funeral home.
