Miss Ora Gertrude Blackburn

Miss Ora Gertrude Blackburn, age 82 of Mt. Airy passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at Central Continuing Care. Miss Blackburn was born in Carroll County VA on April 4, 1929 to the late Sanford Hillary and Verna Nora Crotts Blackburn. She retired from Pine State after 43 years of service. Miss Blackburn is survived by sisters, Mabel Puckett and Opal Cox both of Mt. Airy and Edna White of Middletown, VA; brothers, Roy Blackburn of Lambsburg and Denzel Blackburn of Mt. Airy; half sister, Naomi McMillian of Mt. Airy, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Miss Blackburn was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Sontag; brothers, Calvin Ferrell Blackburn and Ray Blackburn; half sisters, Ethel Nichols, Iris Yopp and Bertha Cox; and half brother, Elmer Blackburn. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Hawks Family Cemetery in Lambsburg, VA by Rev. Verlon Combs. There is no visitation. Moody Funeral Home in Mt.
