Miss Joanne Fern Chilton

Miss Joanne Fern Chilton, 86 of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Miss Chilton was born on September 26, 1929 in Forsyth County to the late James Edgar Chilton and Sadie Celeste Caudle Chilton. Miss Chilton was a graduate of Hanes High School in Winston Salem where she was an outstanding basketball and soccer star. She was also retired from AT&T after 35 years of dedicated service. She was the true connection point for the many family members throughout her life. She could be counted on to share news, an encouraging word, or care to all of her family. Miss Chilton is survived by her brother, Larry Wayne Chilton of Mt. Airy; and many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Chilton Loftin; and two brothers, E. Warren Chilton and Robert E. Chilton. A graveside service will be held at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston Salem on Saturday July 9, 2016 at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ron Price officiating. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. Moody Funeral Services in Mt. Airy is assisting the Chilton family.
