Mr. Mitchell Leon Brannock, age 68 of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, January 8, 2011 at his home. Mr. Brannock was born in Surry County on August 12, 1942 to William Richard and Minnie Sara Brown Brannock. He served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and after thirty years of service, retired from Riverside Exxon. Mr. Brannock was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Guard, Mt. Airy Post 2019. Surviving are, daughters, Donna Brannock and Melissa Brannock both of Pilot Mountain and Lindsey Brannock of Mt. Airy; a son, Destry Brannock of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Megan Wooten and husband, Nathan, Riley Hopkins, Noah Hopkins; sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia Carter and Lynn Childress both of Mt. Airy; and Vivian and Brian Thompson of Cleveland, TN; brothers and a sister-in-law, Ralph and Ann Brannock of Greenville, SC and Jerry Brannock of Mt. Airy and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brannock was preceded in death by a sister, Margarite Brannock and brothers, Richard (Buck) Brannock and Jack Brannock. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Chaplain Robbie Vance. Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Linda Collins and all the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the special love and care given to Mr. Brannock.
