Mr. Mitchell Glen Kirkman, 54, of 6111 Farrior Drive, Clemmons, husband of Nora Chavez Kirkman, was called home Friday afternoon, September 11, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. He was born November 10, 1954, in Surry County, to Glen and Treva Riddle Kirkman. He was a 10-year veteran of the Winston-Salem Police Department. He was the co-owner of Flor Blanca Realty and was a mortgage broker. Mr. Kirkman was the former co-owner and operator of Sheltontown Grocery. He was a 1973 graduate of Mount Airy High School, a graduate of Surry Community College, and a graduate of University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church in Clemmons. Surviving are his wife, Nora Chavez Kirkman of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Heather and William Naylor of Conway, SC, and Erin Kirkman of Winston-Salem; his parents, Glen and Treva Riddle Kirkman of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Wayne Hudson of Mount Airy; a nephew, Travis Hudson of Greensboro; and a niece, Jessica Hudson of Winston-Salem. Mr. Kirkman was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Kirkman. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, September 14, 2009, at Bannertown Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Steven Corts. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes before the service.
