Mondale Thomas Payne

Mr. Mondale Thomas Payne, age 82, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the home of his son in Germanton, NC. He was born on September 13, 1942, in Surry County to the late Cicero and Georgia Thomas Payne. Mondale was a long-time member of White Plains Baptist Church and a retired salesman. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Betty Lou Winesett Payne; daughter and son-in-law, Joy Chappell (Dale); son and daughter-in-law, Brandal Payne (Stacy); grandchildren, Amanda Maderia, Erica Lawson, Andrea Goad, Christian Payne, Isaiah Payne, Katlyn Castillo, and Georgia Payne; fifteen great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard Payne (Jean), and Linwood Payne (Sue); and by a special friend, Richard Gibson. In addition to his parents Mr. Payne was preceded in death by a son, Van Alan Payne, daughter, Jan Denise Payne; a sister, Clara Jo Payne; and by a special friend, Mark Johnson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at White Plains Baptist Church White Plains Baptist Church with service conducted by Brother David Tucker, Brother Ronnie Hall, and Brother Dale Hawks. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 12:00 PM until the time for the service at the church.
