Mozelle Elizabeth Gillispie Harrell

Mrs. Mozelle Elizabeth Gillispie Harrell, 99, of Ararat, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy.  Mrs. Harrell was born February 21, 1924, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Alice Elizabeth Gillispie O’Neal and Elijah Wilson and Susan Bryant Gillispie.  Mozelle was a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.  She enjoyed gardening, flowers, and watching just about anything grow.  She is survived by her son-in-law, Thomas Horton; her grandchildren, Thomas Horton, Jr. and Sherrie Horton, Tonya and Clint Boggs, Sonya and Brady Sechrist, Trent and Ashley Horton, Donald Beck, Rhonda and Joel Atkins, Angie Robertson, and Gail Beck; twenty great-grandchildren; twenty-six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harrell was preceded in death by her husband, Joye Harrell; a daughter, Linda Faye Horton; a son, Charles Beck; a grandson, Gray Beck; four sisters, Annie Bowman, Roxie Chilton, Jackie Atkins, and Evelyn East; and three brothers, Clinton O’Neal, Bob O’Neal, and Glenn O’Neal.  The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Robbie Sizemore officiating.  Burial will follow in the Ararat Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  At other times, the family welcomes friends to the Horton home at 442 Ash Hill Road, Ararat.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown by Nellie Anderson and Ruby Daniels.
