Mr. Adolphus Daniel Lawless, age 82 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on March 31, 1926 to the late Daniel Hughes Lawless and Anice Dale Walker Lawless. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawless was preceded in death by one son, Randall Jacob Lawless; one brother, Raymond Lawless; four sisters, Versie Neal, Pearl Shaw, Nona Stanley and Lourine Hodnett. Mr. Lawless was retired from the maintenance department of Easthampton Rubber Thread and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church where he served as a deacon of the church, was chairman of the cemetery committee, and was a member of the church finance committee. He had served in the United States Air Force during World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 105.
Mr. Lawless is survived by his wife, Telitha Ernestine Harris Lawless of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Rena and Glenn Edwards of Martinsville; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Karen Lawless of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Edward Haynes and Ashley Marie Cherry, and husband, Trent; one great-grandchild, Daniel Nicholas Cherry; and one brother, Stoneman Lawless of Collinsville.
Funeral services for Mr. Lawless will be held Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Melton officiating. Burial will follow in Sycamore Baptist Church Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sycamore Baptist Church, 179 Sycamore Church Lane, Stuart, Virginia 24171.
