Mr. Al Smith Moore

Mr. Al S. Moore, age 86 of Dobson, North Carolina peacefully passed away to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on Friday November 27, 2015. He was born in Surry Co., September 10, 1929 to the late William Hawkins and the late Bessie Hodges Moore. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years Verlene Burrus Coe Moore; one sister Jeanean White; five brothers Paul, Sam, Wayne, Bill and Arvil Moore.

Mr. Moore was a Purple Heart recipient for his service in the Korean War in the distinguished 24th Infantry Division, of the 19th Infantry Regiment. Mr. Moore was a self-employed farmer in Rockford, NC. He was a big hearted, thoughtful, selfless, and hardworking man that always put his family and others first. Surviving are his two daughters and sons-in-law Teresa and Bill Haymore of Dobson, Sharon and Bailey Elmore of Dobson; one son Brent Moore of Dobson; seven grandchildren Chad and Laura Moore, Scott Moore, Carrie Moore, Lance and Julie Haymore, Shane and Kaitlynn Oakley, Kaylin Haymore, Luke Haymore; by three great grandchildren Avery Wilmoth, Ayden Wilmoth, and Callie Moore; by one sister Laurean Gordon of Elkin; one brother and sister-in-law Wade and Charlotte Moore of Mullins, SC.; special friend Lorene Moore of Dobson. Funeral services will be held Sunday evening 3:00 P.M. at Rockford Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Rev. Ben Webb, Rev. Mitchell Robertson and Rev. Danny Culler will conduct the funeral services. The family will receive friends on Sunday 1:30 P.M. before the service at the church at 3:00 P.M. The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or the Childrens Center of Surry County PO Box 692 Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to give a special thanks to Flannery Heath and Teresa Stanley Slate for the care and love given to their Dad during his illness. Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson is serving the Moore Family.
