Mr. Alvin Randolph Lyons

Mr. Alvin Randolph Lyons, age 87, of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016, at Central Continuing Care. He was born in Smyth County on September 26, 1929 to Cortez and Maggie Jarrell Lyons. Mr. Lyons served the Carroll County School System for 37 years, having served as teacher, coach and ultimately retiring as assistant principal. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Helen Carpenter Lyons; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim Belton; a son, Randy Lyons and fiancée, Angel Ramey; grandchildren, Drew Belton and wife Jessica, Eric Belton and fiancée Ashley Ochoa, and Katie Lyons; a great grandson, Jax Belton; a sister, Betty Lee Lyons; and a brother and sisters-in-law, Brady and Eva Lyons, and Christine Lyons. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by a daughter, April Dawn Lyons; a sister, Claudia Bowman; and a brother, Lauren Lyons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ron Schwarz and Rev. Rickey Martin. Burial will follow in Flower Gap Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Continuing Care’s Activities Dept. at 1287 Newsome St., Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Central Continuing Care for making him their “Sunshine” and Mountain Valley Hospice for the love and care given to Mr. Lyons.
