Mr. Alvis McCray Foley, Sr., age 74 of Stuart passed away Tuesday evening, September 22, 2009 at the V.A. Medical Center in Salem. He was born on February 7, 1935 to the late James "Boss" and Vada Sawyers Foley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Foley was preceded in death by one sister, Odean Thomas, and three brothers, Alexander, Frank and Grady Foley. Mr. Foley had served in the United States Army during the Korean war, was retired from Griffith Lumber Company, and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Foley is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, James A. and Lisa Foley of Laurel Fork and Alvis McCray Foley, Jr. of Stuart; two daughters and sons-in-law, Natalie and Jody Shelton and Tina F. and JerryWoods, all of Stuart; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; five sisters, Pauline Foley and Allene Foley, both of Stuart, Jeraldine Thomas of Woolwine, Nannie Bett Martin of Stuart and Brenda Adams of Ferrum; one brother, Lewis Foley of Stuart and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Foley will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Lee Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in the Foley Family Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. If desired, memorials may be made to the Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O.
