Mr. Arlen Conrad Kilen

Mr. Arlen Conrad Kilen, 81, was called home to be with our Lord on September 20, 2017. Born July 11, 1936 to the late Peter and Julia Sanderson Kilen in Windom, MN. During his high school years Arlen was very active in FFA (Future Farmers of America). He won many awards for the animals he showed and for judging. After graduation from Lakefield High School, Arlen joined the US Airforce. He was stationed at Mitchell Air Force Base on Long Island, New York and was a member of the Air Force Basketball Team. Arlen met his wife Jeanette Lorelli on a blind date and they were married a year later on April 26, 1958. After his honorary discharge from the Airforce he joined the New York State Parkway Police and then merged with the New York State Police Troopers. They finally built their home in Lindenhurst, NY where they lived with their two lovely daughters until Arlen retired from the State Police in 1982. Arlen, Jeanette, and their daughters Theresa and Karen moved to a farm in Lowgap, NC. While in North Carolina he worked as a security guard for Northern Hospital of Surry County for 11 years and upon retiring from NHSC he worked at Tractor Supply Company in Mount Airy for almost 10 years. In addition to his wife, Jeanette of the home he is survived by two daughters, Theresa Hacker (Edward) of Bedford, VA and Karen Younger (Brad) of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Austin Kilen, Logan Younger, Callie Younger and Chance Hacker. He is also survived by his sister, Eileen Bisaillon, of Lakefield, MN and his brother Ervin Kilen, of Jackson MN; brothers-in-law, Arthur Lorelli, Robert Lorelli (Diane); and many nieces and nephews, and many good friends. Arlen was a member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge 616 AF & AM and a member of Round Peak Eastern Star. Many thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice, especially, Rhonda, Debby, Anita, Debbie and Sam and all the wonderful people that work or volunteer with the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Holder officiating. Entombment will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens with full military honors conducted by the VFW Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436, and Masonic Rites and also, Eastern Star. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
