Mr. Arthur Norman Martin, age 82 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 at his home. He was born in Henry County on May 9, 1929 to the late Harry Taylor Martin and Etta Purdy Martin. In addition to his parents, Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Peggy Martin; two sisters, Irene Reeves and Mildred Bowles; and two brothers, Sanford Martin and Roy Martin. He had served in the United States Army from 1947 through 1951 in Europe where he was a member of General Omar Bradley's Honor Guard. He was a member of River View Primitive Baptist Church, and had retired from DuPont with 34 years of service.
Mr. Martin is survived by one daughter, Sandra Amburn of Martinsville; one granddaughter, Sarah Whitlow, and husband, Brent of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Hattie Turner of Bassett and Christine Chilton of Danville; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, JoAnn Washburn of Bassett.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Carl Terry officiating. Burial will follow in the Goblintown cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
