Mr. Arthur “Jim” James Perkins, age 90, of Dobson, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Pruitt Health Care in Elkin. He was born July 20, 1926, in Surry County to the late Lee and Hettie Snow Perkins. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Coe Perkins. Mr. Perkins was a veteran of the United States Army, having served his country as a Sergeant during WWII in Europe. In his early life he was a farmer and then a salesman for Hauser Joyce Farm Equipment and Leinbach Machinery for 23 years. He was a member of Stony Knoll United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir as well as in a quartet for many years. Mr. Perkins was a board member and treasurer of the South Surry Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law; Ronald and Archer Perkins of Dobson and Randy and Rhonda Perkins of Raleigh; grandchildren, Emily Fulk, Kelly Perkins and Jordan Perkins; great grandchildren, Maddison and Alivia; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Shirley Perkins of Mount Airy. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Thurmond Perkins, Walter Perkins and Carroll Perkins; and his sister, Vetra Covington. Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2017, from 6-8 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson. The funeral will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Stony Knoll United Methodist Church with Reverend Jimmy Lawton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Building Fund, in care of Kay Crouse, 105 Stratford Place, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their thanks to Bayada Home Health Care members; Teresa, Shannon, Jill, Joyce and Cidney and the staff of Pruitt Health Care for their love and care of Mr. Perkins.
