Mr. Athol Stogner

Mr. Athol Stogner, 93 of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Stogner was born on March 30, 1923 in Henryetta, OK to the late Judson Warren Stogner and Lillie Josephine Moore Stogner. He was retired from Fontana Paper Mills after many years of service and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Fontana, CA. Mr. Stogner is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay Edwards and husband Bill of Lowgap, NC and Teresa Cowan and husband John of Mt. Airy, NC; one son and daughter-in-law, David Stogner and wife Debbie of Granite Bay, CA; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a cherished companion, Chase Haynes. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stogner was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Barbara Long Stogner. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at RidgeCrest Retirement Home at 11:00 AM with burial to follow in Sacramento Valley National Cemetery at a later date. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home for Mr. Stogner. Moody Funeral Services, Inc. in Mt. Airy is assisting the Stogner family.
