Mr. Aubrey D. Newman

Mr. Aubrey D. Newman, age 81 of Daleville, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 26, 1935 to the late Eugene and Violet Clifton Newman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Newman was preceded in death by three sisters, Moncella Gray, Violet Paunee Rorrer and Betty Ruth Jenkins; a brother, Cecil Newman; and a nephew, Mark Goard. He graduated from Meadows of Dan High School in 1954 and served in the United States Army until 1957. He married Mavis Willis in June, 1957. He attended Indiana Tech and graduated with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering in 1961, and retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) after 35 years of service. He established and maintained the Blue Bird trail throughout Botetourt County, and enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. He attended Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church in Roanoke.

Mr. Newman is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mavis Willis Newman of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Joanne Newman of Jacksonville, Florida; a granddaughter, Nichole Newman of Jacksonville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Garvin and Janice Newman of Florida, Elroy and Iva Newman of Lynchburg; and three sisters, Wanetta Doss of Stuart, Nagatha Wirt of Christiansburg, Evelena and Joe Dalton of Meadows of Dan.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 26, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will following in the Lewis Family Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church, 3106 Red Rock Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24015.
