Mr. Bennie Ray Blackard

Mr. Bennie Ray Blackard, age 66 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was born in Patrick County on October 6, 1946 to the late Shuble and Pearl Holt Blackard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Blackard was preceded in death by a brother, J.C. Blackard. He had attended Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church where he enjoyed working with the Food Ministry. He also volunteered with the Caring Hearts Free Clinic, and was an avid gardener and fisherman.
Mr. Blackard is survived by his wife, Carol George Blackard of the home; two daughters, Jennifer Williams of Madison, North Carolina and Crystal Stewart of Lawsonville, North Carolina; one step-daughter, Chasity Shelor of Meadows of Dan; one step-son, Jonathan Holmes of Fayetteville, North Carolina; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and James Lawson of Stuart, Shirley and Glenn Handy of Stuart; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles William and Doris Haden Blackard of Woolwine; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mr. Blackard will be held Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home. Burial will follow in the Nowlin Family Cemetery on Hazelwood Drive, Stuart. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
