Mr. Bennie R. Rodgers, age 69 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Patrick County on August 6, 1938 to the late Bennie G. Rodgers and Mary Lucinda "Madie" Scott Rodgers. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Wilson Rodgers. He attended Roanoke National Business College, and had worked for Patrick County Bank. He was a correctional officer at Camp 28 Correctional Center in Henry County and Camp 5 Correctional Center in Willis. He was later promoted to a supervisory position at the Chatham Correctional Center. He had also been a hunter's education instructor for Virginia. He was a member of the Stuart Seventh Day Adventist Church and attended Minnie's Chapel Wesleyan Church.
Mr. Rodgers is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Ronnie Wood of Ridgeway; a special niece, Rebecca Amos, and her husband, Robert of Martinsville; two grand nephews, Tyler and Owen Amos; and one grand niece, Morgan Elizabeth Amos.
Funeral services for Mr. Rodgers will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Curtis Hall and Pastor Kevin Powell officiating. Burial will follow in the Rodgers/Scott Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Ronnie and Ruth Wood, 228 Shamrock Drive, Ridgeway, Virginia.
