Mr. Benton Moorefield

Mr. Benton "Papa B" Moorefield, age 77 of Claudville, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011 at his home. He was born in Patrick County on June 9, 1933 to the late Charlie Walter and Lucy Handy Moorefield. In addition to his parents, Mr. Moorefield was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Slate Moorefield; an infant granddaughter, Angelia Handy; three half-brothers, Fred Moorefield, Herbert Anderson and Lester Anderson; and a half-sister, Myrtle Flippin. He was a member of Dobyns Primitive Baptist Church where he had been a deacon since 1986, and had been a farmer and a retired bus driver with the Patrick County School System.
Mr. Moorefield is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Billy Handy of Stuart and Lisa and Henry Greenwood of Claudville; one son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Tracie Moorefield of Claudville; six grandchildren, Billy Handy, Jr., Barry Charles Handy, April Greenwood Hall, Rusty Lee Greenwood, Savannah Sage Moorefield, and Montana Celie Mooredfield; one great-grandson, Aiden Chace Handy; two sisters, Louise Shelton and Jane Shelton, both of Patrick Springs; one brother, Bruce Moorefield of Kernersville, North Carolina; and two special nieces, Sybil and Whitney Slate.
Funeral services for Mr. Moorefield will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Donnie Conner officiating. Burial will follow in the Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
