Life Legacy

Mr. Billy (Bill) Joe Harrison, age 76 of Dobson passed away Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home. He was born January 26, 1941 in Clear Water, Florida. Mr. Harrison was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, nephew, cousin, and loyal friend. He attended First Baptist Church of Dobson. Mr. Harrison was a Veteran who served in both the Army and Navy for a total of six years. A retired electrical contractor, he and his wife of 39 years, Mary Lou Harrison, were well known for their family business in Baytown, Texas. For over 27 years, Bill and Mary served their town by helping to sponsor various community functions and events. Bill was a craftsman; he loved and excelled in woodworking of all kinds. He was known to his family and friends for his keen ability to envision and bring to life whatever renovation was needed at his home. Whenever Bill relocated from a residence, he always left behind uniquely custom-crafted improvements for the next homeowner. Bill’s warm smile and light-hearted laughter endeared him to family, friends and acquaintances. His good-natured personality and his superior giftedness will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Harrison was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Mary Levon Houser and Sgt. Richard Hardman Houser; his daughter, Adina Jo Ryan; his biological father, William Clinton Harrison; and a baby sister, Hattie Harrison. Survivors include his wife of the home; brother, Robert (Lissa) Harrison of Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren, Ashli (Alex) Nixon, Whitney (Chris) Gherman, Brooke (Matt) Dusenberry, their father Russ Mentzer and step-father David Ryan all of Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Isa Rós Gherman and Emerson Rae Nixon, both of Ohio; two nephews and a niece, Robert Harrison, Jr. of California, Richard (Rachel) Harrison of Colorado and Michelle (Conrad) Adamczak of California; aunts and uncles, Arthur and Lucille Shores, Richard and Magdalene Cox, Odessa Shores, Maudaleen Shores all of Thurmond; step- brothers and step-sisters, Ronnie (Jonnie) Harrison of Winston-Salem, Larry Harrison (Linda) of Yadkinville, Janice Hartman of Lexington, Debra Moose of Hamptonville; special cousins, Janie Shores Johnson of State Road, Imogene Hardy of Dobson; and many other extended family members. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church, 423 Union Hill Rd., Thurmond, NC. Officiating in the service will be the Rev. Cory Honeycutt, Rev. Claude Lloyd, and Rev. Brian Cardwell. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The family wishes to express gratitude to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, as well as family and friends, for their love and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC.
