Mr. Billy Gray Lynch, age 76 of 2233 Old Hwy 52, Pinnacle, NC passed away Sunday January 22, 2012 while at home with family and friends. He was born March 16, 1935 to the late Millard and Elsie Smith Lynch. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris Lawson Lynch; a son-in-law, Arnold Nelson of Pinnacle; a daughter and son-in-law, Terrie Lynch-Chilton and Tony of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Sandra Lynch of Pinnacle; three grandsons, Austin, Channing, and Brantley all of Pinnacle; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Romey and Ruth Lynch of Walnut Cove, Brockley and Irene Lynch of Westfield and Jim R. and Faye Lynch of Pinnacle; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Magdelene and Bobby Hiatt of Westfield and Katie and Coy Lawson of Rural Hall. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lynch was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Annette Lynch Nelson and two brothers, William Powell Lynch and Millard Eugene Lynch. He was a member of Pinnacle Baptist Church. Mr. Lynch attended Nancy Reynolds School and went on to graduate from Professional Driving School at NC State University in 1955. That began a career of over 35 years in the trucking industry. He was employed with Pilot Freight Carriers where he traveled extensively throughout the east coast and also worked locally primarily in the Mt. Airy area. He worked at Roadway Trucking and retired in 1993. He received several Safe Driving Awards during his long career. He loved traveling and said he "liked seeing different places and different faces". He had an entrepreneurial spirit and after a short retirement started his own trucking and grading business, Pinnacle Grading and Trucking, with his son Norman in 1993. His business acumen lead him to be instrumental in assisting with the Stokes County Emergency Medical Services and providing the first building to house the ambulances and Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics for Stokes County. He never stopped learning and was an avid reader of both current events and history. He especially loved nature and astronomy. He was blessed with a wonderful wife of 57 years; a loving family and many many friends. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to a special family friend, Chris Bowman for her loving care and valued friendship. They also extend a special thank you to the health care providers at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Funeral services will be held at the Pinnacle United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2012 conducted by the Rev. Dr. Delmer Chilton, Rev. John White and Rev. Darrell Price. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
