Mr. Billy Lee Shumate, age 75, of Elkin passed away at his home on Tuesday May 24, 2016. He was born in Surry Co. on March 12, 1940 to the late Robert E. Lee Shumate and the late Tavie Frances Simpson Shumate.
He was a disabled construction worker and a well know mechanic. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law Shannon and Tim Carter of Elkin; son and daughter-in-law Timothy Lee and Kathy Shumate of Mt. Airy; five grandchildren Lee, Kari, Linda, Chasity, Duncan; seven great grandchildren Jaiden, Kaylei, Jaxton Garcia, Alex, Vicente Garcia, Lili, Leo Vargas; two sisters and brothers-in-law Brenda and Ray Freeman, Sharon and Johnny Caudill; four brothers and sisters-in-law Junior and Jewel Shumate, Bob and Linda Shumate, Dink Shumate, James and Renda Shumate. Visitation will be Friday May 27, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Moody-Davis Funeral Service in Dobson .
