Mr. Bobby Jay Combs

Mr. Bobby Jay Combs, age 79 of Cana, passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at his home. Mr. Combs was born in Carroll County on February 1, 1932 to Dolphus and Neva Cook Combs. He served our country in the Army during the Korean War and he owned and operated a heavy equipment business. Mr. Combs was a life-long, faithful member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. Surviving are his devoted wife, Nancy Lee Brown Combs of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Kevin and Crystal Combs of Cana; grandchildren, Matthew Combs, Makayla Combs and Madison Combs; sisters and brothers-in-law, Myrtle and James Melton and Barbara Jo and Ronald Jarrell all of Cana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Dot Combs and Clayton and Ethel Combs all of Cana; step sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene King of Harrisburg, PA; Willie Sue Shanner of Sierra Vista, AZ; Imogene Combs of Yadkinville; Betty Gentry of Mt. Airy; Helen and Mason Hiatt of Cana; step brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernie and Mildred Johnson and Lola Johnson all of Cana, and a special friend, Revis Gentry and special nieces, Juanita King Bullins and Becky King McMillian. In addition to his parents, Mr. Combs was preceded in death by his step mother, Mary Emily "Mamie" Hall Combs, sisters, Virginia Dare "Pat" King and Minnie Combs; a step brother, Clyde Johnson and nephews, Richard Dale King and Leslie Melton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday at Oak Ridge Baptist Church by Rev. David Sechrist, Rev. Roland McCraw and Rev. Russell Vass. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Oak Ridge Baptist Church and Mr. Combs will lie in state there for thirty minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Gideons International, P.O. Box 1032, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
