Mr. Bobby Ray "Bob" Jurney

Mr. Bobby Ray “Bob” Jurney, age 76, of Mt. Airy, died Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Jurney was born in Surry County on June 23, 1940 to William and Esther Mae Harold Jurney. He was a devoted member of Bannertown Baptist Church as long as his health permitted. Mr. Jurney had served as President of the Board of Directors for the Hope Pregnancy Care Center in King. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William Edward and Bobbie Jurney; step daughters, Janet Jarrell and husband Tony and Darlene Hill and husband Clint; grandchildren and spouse, Summer and Bill Rex, William Jurney, and Joshua Jurney; step grandchildren, Jason Hill, Katherine Hill, Ashley Marshall, Dusty Marshall and Rusty Marshall; great grandchildren, Wyatt Rex, Ramie Lynn Jurney, and Skylee Rae Jurney, step great grandchildren, Elliott Lee Anthony, Carson Thomas Hill and Koby Lee Hill, a sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and John Hockman; and brother and sisters-in-law, Tony and Marie Jurney and Brenda Jurney. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jurney was preceded in death by his wife, Angelena Calloway Jurney; a son, John Franklin Jurney, a sister, Claudia Bell and a brother, Wade Jurney. A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Sunday August 28, 2016 at Bannertown Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Mickey Cogdill. The family will receive friends 2:00 pm Sunday until time of the service at Bannertown Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Bannertown Baptist Church Youth Fund at 1834 Westfield Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to thank the staff of Central Continuing Care and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for the special care given to Mr. Jurney during his illness.
