Mr. Campbell “Cam” Cleveland Hiatt, age 94, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, July 30, 2017 at Northern Hospital of Surry County Skilled Unit. Mr. Hiatt was born in Surry County on January 16, 1923, one of seven children to the late Walter Cleveland Hiatt, Sr. and Alice Simmons Hiatt. Mr. Hiatt retired from Scenic Motors, Inc. as a mechanic after 31 years of dedicated service and was of the Baptist faith. Left to cherish his memory is a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley (David) Cox of Pinnacle; a son and daughter-in-law, Leon (Kay) Hiatt of Mount Airy; two grandsons, Jon David Cox and spouse of South Carolina and Fred (Mark) Hiatt of Arkansas; a great-granddaughter of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Lee Peele Hiatt; three sisters, Ruth Hiatt Norman Steele, Annie Mae Hiatt Smith, and Gracie Etta Hiatt Carter; and three brothers, John Edward Hiatt, Reid Franklin Hiatt, and Walter “Junior” Cleveland Hiatt, Jr. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Garden with Dr. Darrell Tate officiating. There will not be any formal visitation for Mr. Hiatt at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff of Northern Hospital Skilled Unit, Dr. Burciu and Mountain Valley Hospice for the excellent care he has received while a resident there.
