Mr. Calvin Lee Lawson, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. He was born in Patrick County on July 26, 1926 to the late Sam and Lillie Cannaday Lawson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Lawson was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon B. Lawson; and two sisters, Inez Foley and Gladys Foley Hall. He served in the United States Army during World War II, was a member of Faith Community Church, and had retired from Bassett Mirror.
Mr. Lawson is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cornelia Lawless Lawson of the home; two daughters, Marie Lawson Setliff of Stuart, and special friend, Mitchell Clark of Ferrum, Eltrue Tatum and husband, Kermit, of Henry; two sons and daughters-in-law, Denver Lee and Patricia Lynn Lawson of Stuart and Calvin Wayne and Carol Lawson of Willis; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 step-great-grandchildren; 2 foster children; and one sister, Orene Lawson Booth of Stuart.
Funeral services for Mr. Lawson will be held Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Timothy Hylton and Rev. Steve Tilley officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Church of the Brethren Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
