Mr. Calvin Ellis Nichols, age 70 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Nichols was born in Surry County, September 21, 1941 to Charlie Lee and Ethel Hawks Nichols. He was a retired manager from Labsco Supply Company and was a member of Mount Airy Wesleyan Church. Surviving is a loving daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Jeff Irwin; his granddog and grandcat Alex and Scarlett; step grandchildren, Amanda Irwin, Michael Irwin and Elizabeth Irwin; sisters, Bernell Wright and Irene White; brothers, Ray Nichols and Roger Nichols; former wife, Helen Nichols; several nieces and nephews and special friends Richard and Norma Wactor, Pam Lowe, Stacey Lewis, Estelle Avara, Sharon Lowe and Carl Gaither. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by a sister, Bertha Travis and brothers, Rayburn Nichols and Howard Nichols. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Richard Loman. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home. Maria and Jeff want to express their deep and sincere gratitude to Dr. Roger Kerley and staff, to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Sabrina McKeithen and Michael Fields and the Woltz Hospice Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Mr. Nichols during his illness. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
