Mr. Carl Harm Atkins

Mr. Carl Harm Atkins, age 94 of Mt. Airy, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at his home. Mr. Atkins was born in Surry County on March 22, 1919 to Caleb Winfred and Pearl Bell Johnson Atkins. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII, was retired from Surry Truck & Tractor and was a member of Union Hill Friends Church. Surviving are his devoted wife of more than sixty years, Peggy Watson Atkins; daughters and a son-in-law, Kimberly Atkins and Kay and Mark Senter all of Mt. Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Ron and Dixie Atkins of Dobson and Kenneth and Carlene Atkins of Mt. Airy; seven grandchildren; Steve Atkins, Shane Atkins, Luke Atkins, Sarah Hutson, Lindsey Atkins, Ashley Simmons and Meredith Lineback, eight great grandchildren; sisters and a brother-in-law, Pauline Younger, Peggy Simmons and Jackie and J. B. Cave all of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Fowler and brothers, Walter Atkins, Lonnie Atkins and Troy Atkins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 28, 2013 at Blues Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Tony Holder, Rev. Roland McCraw and Rev. Terry Watson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors by the Army National Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Blues Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 3069 Red Brush Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
